Babysitter Boot Camp
Take this summer to help your child learn new skills to become a young entrepeneur while caring for infants and children. Parents of boys and girls aged 11 through 15 are encouraged to sign up their child(ren) for the American Red Cross Babysitter Boot Camp offered at four locations in South Central Pennsylvania throughout June and July.
During these fun, interactive camps, youth will be given the opportunity to learn life-saving skills while earning Red Cross certifications in First Aid and Infant & Child CPR. Campers will also learn basic child care skills. Each day will be broken down into different topics; attendance is required for all three days to complete the boot camp. The breakdown of topics is as follows:
- On day one, campers will learn leadership skills, professionalism, basic child care skills such as diapering and feeding, safe play and how to handle bedtime issues.
- Day two will be focused on learning life-saving skills such as CPR, performing rescue breaths, and learning how to respond to an infant or child who is choking by practicing with manikins. Campers will receive Red Cross certification in Infant and Child CPR.
- On day three, campers will earn a Red Cross certification in First Aid as they learn how to handle injuries to muscle and bones, how to control bleeding and more. Campers will also learn about disasters that can occur in our area and how to prepare for them.
Although a relatively new program, the York-Adams Chapter of the American Red Cross has hosted two successful camps, training 40 potential babysitters in the South Central Pennsylvania region.
"My child wanted to be informed on the subject of childcare as she wants to begin to babysit" stated one parent. "I thank you for offering such a great program for our community's youth."
Campers will receive lunch each day, a tee shirt and training materials. For more information on the cost of the program, for questions, and to register for a boot camp please see contacts below.
