Free Community Wellness and Preparedness Education

Is your Neighborhood Association, Block Watch group or civic organization having a community event? Wellness and preparedness information and activities for all ages are available at no charge! 

Since 2007, York City Fire and Rescue Services, Police Department and Bureau of Health, White Rose Ambulance, Safe Kids York County and the York-Adams Chapter American Red Cross have collaborated to bring information, prizes and fun-filled activities for the entire family to community events throughout York County.

Be Ready Neighborhood participants and activities include:

 American Red Cross: Free drawings for safety related prizes, tours of the response vehicle and refreshments, distribution of brochures (in both English and Spanish) on disaster preparedness, obtaining renter’s insurance and putting together a disaster kit and a family plan.

 Safe Kids York County : Children’s injury prevention tips, home safety displays, car seat safety check, and bicycle rodeos.

 York City Bureau of Health: Information regarding immunization program for children and other health-related information, interactive activities and free dental care packets for children and adults.

 York City Fire and Rescue Services: Fire trucks and equipment displays, visits from “Bunkers,” the fire dog, and fire safety information. Note: Free smoke detectors with 10-year lithium batteries are also available for York City residents while supplies last. The smoke detectors will be installed by the York City Fire & Rescue Services. Residents must pre-register by calling 854-3921.

 York City Police: Kids IDs, visits from “McGruff” the crime dog, free bicycle helmets, and crime prevention and drug awareness information.

 White Rose Ambulance: Free blood pressure checks.
